FREE PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL: How to Add Frost and Snow to Your Image?

frost_6

This tutorial will show you how to add frost and snow to your scenic photos in 1 or 2 steps! REALLY!

This technique works best in scenic photos such as of trees, leaves or gardens. But feel free to try it on any image you want.

Here is the image we will be working with:

1.) Create a NEW “Channel mixer” adjustment layer. To do this, click on the adjustment layer icon at the bottom of your layers palette and select “Channel Mixer.”

A channel Mixer dialog will pop up. Just click OK to close it for now.
2.) Now set the blending mode of this layer to the option “LIGHTEN”. You can follow the screenshot below.

3.) Now change the settings to make it look like the image below:

4.) Now you may notice that your image will not exactly appear like my sample in this setting. This is expected because the lightings in the images vary. Simply adjust your “Blue” and “Constant” sliders until you get the preferred output.

Note that this will not work on all images because of various factors. So, if your current image does not turn out well, it is best to try another one.
5.) Here is a different Blue and Constant Settings

See? That was easy, right?
